The Orono, MN community welcomes you to this inviting town of only about 8,000 residents. As a new Orono homeowner, you will have access to a number of features and amenities that will make your life here enjoyable and convenient. Take some time to explore Orono and all that it has to offer for your family and your lifestyle.
The Orono Golf Course has been offering lush greens and rolling hills to avid golfers since 1924. Located at 265 Orono Orchard Road South, this golf course is open every day from 6:30 a.m. to dusk so you can spend the entire day working on your game at this nine-hole course. Seasons last from April to October. Ron Steffenhagen is the current Golf Course Manager and you can call (952) 473-9904 to get more information about tee times and prices.
Recycling is important in Orono and the city wants to encourage its residents to contribute to the community in this way. On the scheduled day for your recycling pickup, you must have your recyclables at your curb by 7 a.m. in clearly marked bins or in paper bags. Waste Management is contracted to pick up your trash and recyclables in Orono. During the spring months, the community also sponsors some \"clean up days\" where you can get rid of a bunch of junk that trash crews typically would not collect. To get recycling bins or for more information about recycling, call the Recycling Coordinator - Rachel Dodge - at (952) 249-4600.
Since the town of Orono is located along Lake Minnetonka, new residents can expect to find miles of shoreline that they can access for water-related activities or for simply enjoying the serenity of the beach and natural settings. This lake is the tenth largest lake in the state with more than 14,000 acres of water and at least 100 miles of actual shoreline. During the winter months, Orono residents can go ice fishing, ice skating or enjoy any number of other activities designed for the frigid weather. For information about fishing or enjoying Lake Minnetonka, you can call the Minnesota Office of Tourism at (651) 296-5029.
The community of Orono offers an Adopt-a-Green-Space Program in which residents can sign up to maintain various natural areas throughout the city. When you \"adopt\" an area of natural land (beaches, park areas, etc.), you are expected to clean up any trash or litter, plant flowers and other plants and remove weeds from the selected space. When the entire community works together in this way, we can expect to keep our wildlife and natural areas looking immaculate and we can take pride in them. For more information about this program and how you can volunteer to help, call the City Administrator at (952) 249-4600.
